“I heard William slept in my bed,” says Carl, angrily.

“First of all,” says Melanie, “it is not your bed any longer. Secondly, isn’t this what you hoped for?”

“Yeah, I hoped for it,” says Carl. “I never dreamed it would happen so quickly. Neither did I expect that you would have taken him into our bed.”

“We were already here,” says Melanie. “I just took advantage of the situation.”

“Just be aware you don’t take too many advantages.”

“Nicholas Cole has been afebrile for forty-eight hours,” reports Amanda. “His cultures are all negative. There are no signs of infection. He is getting some physical therapy right now and progressing well. It’s time for discharge planning.”

“Good idea,” says Dr. Shimmer. “Have a social worker look into his options. Also, make sure Detective Daze is aware of the plans.”

“Everyone in the administrative staff was accounted for,” reports Cody to his chief, Andrew Starr. “That only leaves the maintenance staff and they deny any knowledge. The guard, of course, was fired for drunkenness after the incident.”

“Perhaps, you should question him. He might break under pressure,” says Andrew.

“I’m not sure,” says Cody. “There’s suspicion that he is in league with another of the employees.”

“Have him followed and see where it leads us.”

“Only a few more months of school,” says Claire Sparks to Belle. “I’m already getting a bad case of senioritis.”

“It’ll go fast,” says Belle. “We’ve got the holidays coming up, then it’s downhill from there.”

“Easy for you to say,” says Claire. “You’ve got things all lined up for when you finish.”

“What do you mean?” asks Belle.

“Your parents are probably going to open up a fashion house and have you work in it,” says Claire.

“They are so busy with their publishing house, I’m not sure when that will happen,” says Belle. “Besides, we said we’d start a fashion house of our own. We want to build it the way we want it.”

“Yes, but where are we going to come up with the money?” asks Claire.

“That’s all part of what we have to plan,” says Belle. “That’ll keep you busy until the end of the school year.”

“Why hasn’t David come to visit recently?” asks Lucy.

“I’d rather that he didn’t,” says Lisa.

“Why not?” asks Lucy.

“I’d rather not discuss it,” says Lisa.

“But it’s only right that he should come,” says Lucy.

“Right?!” asks Lisa, astonished.

“Of course, after all David is family,” says Lucy.

Before Lisa could answer, Blanche walks in. “We do not want rumors like that to be passed around,” says Blanche. She turns to Lisa. “I’ll handle this. You go see to Eileen.”

After Lisa leaves, Blanche turns to Lucy. “What do you remember of our previous discussion of the Golde family?”

“You said we were not to discuss them,” says Lucy.

“Then I want you not to discuss them,” says Blanche.

“But Lisa needs to know,” argues Lucy.

“Lisa will know what she needs to know. Her father is dead, remember?” says Blanche, glaring at Lucy.

“Yes, Mama,” says Lucy.
