Episode 8 All That Glitters Internet Soap Opera

“Well, have you heard about Julia?” asks Ashley.

“No,” says Belle.  “How is she doing?”

“Not well.  They’re not expecting her to live much longer.  So dad has decided to dedicate the next issue of Glitter to her life and work.”

“That’s very sad,” says Tara.  “It seems we’ve grown up with the Golde family and it won’t be the same with Julia gone.”

“Julia, it’s time for you to get some rest,” says Sylvia, interrupting another interview session at the Golde home.

After the interviewers leave, Sylvia helps Julia into bed.

“You’re an amazing woman, Julia.  Even now, you have so much strength of character.”

“You wouldn’t believe how exhausting it can be.  But I can’t let others see that.  It’s the image I’ve created for myself and I want it to stay that way.”

“Well, I don’t want you to tire yourself.”

“Sylvia, you are so much more restful than those girls hired to care for me.”

Sylvia laughs, “I know you better than they do.”  Then in a more serious tone, “Are you happy, Julia?”

“Happy?  About what in particular?”

“About your life.  Reflecting back on it, would you have changed anything?”

“I guess I’m as happy as I could be.  I’ve achieved my goals, although I wish I had longer to enjoy the fruits of my labor.”

“Any regrets?”

“No, I’d say I’m content.  I got where I wanted to be.  I would never have been happy if the firm had remained small.  And I have a large family to carry on.  What about you, Sylvia?  If you were in my shoes now, could you say you were happy?”

“I never really gave it much thought.  Up till now, I would have said I was happy.  I was never beset with much misfortune so I always counted myself lucky.”

“But now you think something is missing?”

“Not really missing.  Just wondering, What if?  What if we were more than just a magazine?  What if we were internationally renown?  What if I was society queen?”

“You’ll never know until you give it a try.”

Jason is reaching down to pick up a pen he dropped, when he spies a shining object under his bed.  He moves over to pick it up.

“I wonder how that got there,” he says, staring at his missing watch.
