Saying Goodbye
Posted on July 4th, 2007 by Author Anon
Here I am, five months later to report that my friend’s father passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease. It was an extremely rapid decline. It was so difficult to find words of sympathy for the family or encouragement for the loved one. As an outsider, how do you tell a dying person that you appreciated all they did for you, that you are glad to have known them and that you will miss them? How do you tell them good-bye when they are not ready to say good-bye? How can you reassure them without discouraging them? How do you know they will understand when they are glassy-eyed and do not show signs of recognition of your voice? I just hope my simple words were enough.
